Welcome to Derwent, you have either just completed a course, decided on a new hobby or are returning to sailing. Whoever you are it's great to have a new member.
Some people come fully equipped having sailed elsewhere, so have all the gear including a boat or sailboard, but, for others, it can at first seem rather daunting. Don't worry we are a friendly bunch with lots of people always willing to help and give advice.
Don't think it is essential to buy a boat as there are frequent opportunities to crew. This is is an excellent way to enhance the learning experience and to get to know other members. By sailing in someone else's boat the initial cost into sailing is reduced. The minimum you will need to buy is a buoyancy aid and ideally some dinghy boats. The first is essential and the second means that there is less likely to be damage to the helm's boat.
At Derwent there are a variety of boats, with each fleet having a fleet captain, who will help you settle into the fleet and DRSC.
