Hi all
The Handicap Fleet was started at the start of 2006 season to enable all existing members to race sail who don't have a fleet boat, and new members who already race sail to continue.
I wish to give a welcome to the Enterprise's who will be sailing with us ,will be nice to see blue sailed boats racing again.
The handicap racing will be run using the Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme ( known as PY) to allow fast and slow boats to race together on a equal basis. Each boat is given a PY number to modify your finishing time. So you have a race on the water then the PY race result.
Our start this year be the last start with the Toppers, Topaz and Mirror Fleets.
The number of races to qualify for a series result will be 33%.
Any fleet Boat who finds themselves the only boat on their start may start with the Handicap fleet and get a result.
Any one wishing to race for the first time please contact me and I will give you loads of assistance and encouragement.
The Saturday fun handicap run by the David and Barbara Darling, will run alternate Saturdays and is a good time to learn to race sail if you have not race sailed before. Its good fun in a more relaxed atmosphere.
FUN HANDICAP RACING SATURDAYS
It has been decided that this year we are going to use a slightly different system of points for results.
ALL sailors will count for points, whether they crew or helm and no matter what boat is sailed.
The “bonus” system will be used , counting down from 50.
1st 50, 2nd 47, 3rd 44.3, 4th 42, 5th 40, 6th 38.3, 7th 37, 8th 36, 9th 36 etc
Sail a Topper one week, finish 2nd, score 47 points.
Crew in a GP the following time, finish 2nd, score another 47 points.
Helm a Topaz in the next Fun Racing, finish second, another 47 points.
So please write names clearly on signing on sheet!!
The important thing is to enjoy sailing.
