The Optimist fleet last season began to be quite busy with a lot of young sailors getting onto the water on the junior session days. See the list of dates for 2008 under Juniors.
The Optimist or Oppy is a great little boat to get small youngsters sailing. Don’t be tempted to sail with them for too long because your weight at the front end tends to submarine the boat and then the helm loses control. Choose the wind strength and build confidence slowly, let them experience being in charge. Make it fun.
IF you are thinking of selling an Oppy, please advertise it in the club first and on this website. There are families wanting one.
Prices will vary depending on condition and race specification. The older roto moulded Oppies, wooden or GRP ones will start at around £250. The new race ready ones will be a lot more!
We even had a few Optimist helms racing last year so maybe that will continue.
