Last season saw several “new to the club” Mirrors on the water, which was great and a few racing.
This year, those of you contemplating having a go at racing will find that at the last scheduled start on a Wednesday and a Sunday there will also be the Handicap fleet boats on the same start line. You will be automatically included in the Handicap Fleet results, but the Mirror results will also be acquired from the recording sheets.
There will be a shorter course set especially for boats off at the last scheduled start, as well as a longer course. ODs will also time all boats from this last start and record their times on each lap as well as through the finish line. If you find yourself on duty, you will soon realise that timing on every lap is actually easier than leaving times to the finish!
Don’t panic about working out results.
The Handicap Fleet captain will work these out.
Saturday Fun Handicap racing will still continue every other week and the same scoring system used as last year.
If you just intend to cruise and potter, please remember that it is still important to set your boat up so that it is easy and safe to handle.
Help sheets will be available again; there will be one copy on the Mirror section of the notice boards. Please just ask me for a copy if you would like one or any other sort of rigging/practical help.
Especially if you have children, get them out and just enjoy your sailing.
