A big welcome to anyone who has an interest in sailing a Topper.
Toppers are so called because they are a size that can be slung on top of your car, so no messing around with trailers. They are also a breeze (pardon the pun!) to rig so getting out on the water takes the minimum of fuss.
A good number of people sailing Toppers here at the club are children, including us! (at least in spirit). The Topper is a natural progression for young sailors who probably took their first tentative steps in an ‘Oppy’.
Many of our current sailors are happy to come and sail with friends at weekends. Others are enjoying travelling further a field to compete. The ‘Travellers Series’ gives the opportunity for all standards to race at other local venues in the region.
As fleet captains we’re naturally keen to get as many people out on the water as possible. This will often coincide with ‘kids sailing’, which last year generally took place on a Saturday. There is the opportunity to race here at Derwent every Sunday and Wednesday evening. If you don’t own a Topper it’s not a problem because we have some for hire.
