Race Coaching This Weekend

We are delighted to announce that we are planning, not 1 but three different opportunities for race coaching this weekend (Saturday and Sunday - 10th & 11th July)

Saturday 10th July

Junior Sailors who have been participating in the recent beginner sailing sessions* who are able to sail to windward (tack into the wind and make progress towards the wind) are invited to join David Shilling for a day of race coaching on the water. The session will start at 10:30 and finish just after 3pm (with a break for lunch). Advanced online sign up is essential as places will be limited. Dave is an excellent junior coach and is currently the RYA North Regional Training Group Coach for Optimists. This will be an ideal opportunity for sailors who want to find out if they might enjoy racing and to put their toe in the water.

*Juniors who haven't been participating in these sessions but can sail to at least RYA Junior Level 2 would also be welcome.

Sunday 11th July

Club Racing Our regular Saturday afternoon junior improving racer sailors will move their session to Sunday. They will meet at 10am (rigged and read) with a view to launching around 10:30 and will either join the club races with a bit of guidance from a Race Coach or do some race training exercises or a mix of both. This is likely to happen most Sundays through the summer holidays. We are inviting any sailor (young or old) who wants to give club racing a go but has not quite plucked up the courage to get on the start line to come and join us. The junior group have sometimes been briefing on-line in advance depending on their goals - so if you are planning to attend please drop Calum an email in case there is a briefing video to watch. There may be weekends when the junior sailors travel to an event instead or where conditions are less than ideal - we will add a note on the club race listing by 10pm on the Saturday night to confirm if coaching is planned.

(An amendment to the Sailing Instructions has been posted to permit coaching during racing). The aim of this session is to increase participation in club racing - so please do come and join in if you want to.

Laser Coaching - Dave Shilling is also planning to do some laser coaching on Sunday. If you have a laser and want to get out racing and want some tips, meet Dave - rigged and ready at 11am - "until Lunch".
