Adult Windsurfing day
Monday 30 May 2022
10 am Monday not a breath of wind, cold and miserable. Just what you want for a windsurfing course! The candidates arrived, including our membership secretary, club development officer, one of the safety crew and some of our members no names, all willing to give it a go.
After the introductions and cup of coffee we all trotted off to the windsurfing simulator and went through the on-land instructions, got into wetsuits and hey! a little bit of wind appeared and then later a bit more so the day eventually went really well, everyone managing to stay on the board (most of the time) and sail stylishly! Thanks to Michael Hanley for his help that day.
Hopefully, information can be passed on to the rest of the safety crew that beginner windsurfers don't intend to end up downwind and need rescuing!!
Junior Windsurfing day
Tuesday 31st May 2022
Another grey day, cold and no wind so the youngsters did a word search on windsurfing terms and we got to know each other. Then a little bit of wind appeared, yeh, so into wetsuits and into the water. Can they all get on to the Starboard? Can they stand up on it, and of course jump off! Then to the serious bit windsurfing everyone did extremely well practising on the water on ropes, some younger ones continued, to gain confidence whilst the others sailed off with tango always nearby. A great day and well done all.
Junior Windsurfing day
Wednesday 1 June 2022
Again, the wind was having breakfast so a slow start - off to the simulator then into the water for some balance and fun by and a few practising on ropes by which time it was lunchtime. After lunch, we did actually get some wind so everyone got out on to the water for the afternoon - all free sailing and turning round and doing really well. Another great day, and dare I saw we had a little bit of real sunshine but sunshine from everyone from their big smiles!
Thank you to all the volunteers, especially the youngsters, who helped during the junior days.
