Derwent hosts a successful RYA Northern Regional Junior Championships

About 150 sailors of mixed abilities aged 5 to 16 participated in the RYA British Youth Sailing Junior Regional Championships for the North this weekend at Derwent Reservoir. This weekend's conditions have been particularly challenging with winds gusting up to 30knots testing sailors and race management teams on Saturday, while more manageable winds were order of the day for Sunday, rain certainly didn't dampen spirits. Both the championship fleet and the regatta fleet managed to complete six races during the weekend.
Several DRSC sailors took pots home - well done! The club also received trophies for the largest number of entries from the North East and the largest increase in entries - proof our junior section is going from strength to strength under the watchful eye of Dave Shilling and his team of volunteers. Huge thanks go to the massive army of volunteers, parents and sponsors for making the weekend a massive success.
Full results will be posted on the RYA Website in due course.
