Junior Race Coaching

8th August 2020, 14:00 - 17:30

Junior coaching is back on the water...

Junior race coaching is back on the water. Sadly we don't feel the current situation with COVID-19 makes it possible for us to safely support beginner sailors on the water, but we are able to support race coaching for juniors who can do the equivalent of RYA Start Sailing Level 3. Sailors don't need to have the RYA certificate, but should be able to sail a triangular course, launch and recover with minimal assistance and recover from a capsize. (In order to maintain social distancing, if your child needs assistance launching you may need to help them rather than leave it to others).

Ideally sailors would have their own boat, however, we may be able to help out with finding a loan boat - get in touch if necessary.

In "normal" years we would say "turn up - we will do something no matter the weather" - this year we are saying - check the website. If the wind is terrible we may cancel the session, or move it to a different day. Sorry - we know that's a pain but classroom work is off the cards at the moment. We may also choose not to sail in conditions we normally would. To try and maintain social distancing we are trying to get sailors to be more responsible for their own safety and problems on the water. We may also be working single handed from coach boats. We hope you understand!

Sessions will (hopefully) run every Saturday throughout the school holiday (we normally take summer off - but we know a lot of people are not going away). Session capacity will be limited by the number of coaches / safety boats and conditions. Please sign up to come, please cancel if you can't come to make space for others. We may add or remove slots so if the session is full and you want to come - select the waiting list option.

COVID-19 Safety

Please ensure you have read the club's information on COVID safety. Particularly do not come to the club if you or your family/household have any symptoms and pay attention to regular hand sanitisation especially after touching commonly touched points at the club.

The changing rooms remain closed. The toilets are open. Take away sandwiches will be available from the galley via a one way system.

Please try to ensure we maintain 2m distancing between households while rigging and launching.

Slipway Bookings

As part of the club's COVID Secure approach we are trying to minimise congestion on the slipways. For sailing at normal times - please ensure you book a slipway launching time. However - if you are only launching for the junior session - booking this session will also give you slipway access. Please still check-in (and out) via the kiosk in the lobby or the website on your phone.

To book a space
