Derwent's windsurfing fleet has windsurfers of all ages and abilities. When the wind blows strong from Derwent's prevailing wind, west – the more experience windsurfers will be zipping across the reservoir showing off their carve gybing skills!

Without doubt, we can call ourselves the most active fleet in the club due to the (members only) "Buddy System" (see details below) and with the training that's offered here at Derwent for adults and juniors.

There is a big warm welcome from the Derwent Windsurfing Fleet, and the windsurfing members are always happy to help newcomers with advice about their kit or techniques.

If you sign up to the Buddy System, you and at least one 'buddy' (someone else who is a club sailing member) can turn up to sail any day of the year, from dawn till dusk or whatever suits you.

This means everyone can make the most of the conditions throughout the week. Often through the summer months you'll find that windsurfers will even turn up after work for an evening session - or those who are lucky enough, will sail all day. The system is available to all members, but it's fair to say the windsurfers use it most.

So when the wind blows, make sure you've got a buddy or two to accompany you!

For those adults/juniors who wish to take part in racing there is the opportunity to join in the NEWS (North East Windsurfers) EVENTS
