Junior Christmas Finalle Provisional

18th December 2021, 12:00 - 15:00

Every year we try to finish the season with a sailing finale for junior sailors. This is usually an on-the water event for an hour or two followed by a bit of an awards ceremony where we celebrate successes - whether that is a sailor starting our on their sailing journey or winning with world championships, as a bit of a Christmas 'Party'.

We have been watching the current situation with the pandemic carefully, and continue to do so. The government rules would allow us to follow the usual format which usually ends with all the parents, coaches and children inside for the presentation and maybe some food. However, while the government stance is clearly that for most children (who may not be vaccinated) the virus is low risk, we also know that children will be visiting families over the festive period and we don't want to risk that either people can't visit family as they've been forced to isolate or that they unknowingly bring a virus to more vulnerable relatives. We have therefore decided that anything we do for the Finale, will be outdoors only.

What is the plan?

Arrive ready to go on the water by 12:00pm. Bring a face covering.

- Do something on the water (sailing on club boats).

- The exact plan will flex depending who is coming, their experience and the weather

Expect to be ashore by 2pm.

Once boats are put away - a brief overview of the year outside.

What do I need to do to take part?

Sign up online (including parents - so that we have an idea of numbers)

Turn up ready to go on the water (its winter - full wetsuits/drysuits/layers/hats/gloves/buff as a face covering) - no later than 12:00pm. Make sure you have plenty of warm clothes to get changed into when you come ashore.

Only come if you have absolutely no symptoms of covid (lets not take any risks with other people not getting to see granny this Christmas!)

If possible do a Lateral Flow Test on the day (these are available free from the NHS website). If you have symptoms a Lateral Flow Test is not sufficient.

What if the weather is poor?

We will be keeping a very close eye on the weather. If the conditions look like it will be too challenging to sail for those who have signed up, we will cancel - please check the website.
