21, the Magic Number

On a fantastically beautiful Sunday, the club saw a bustling atmosphere with 21 boats in the main fleet joined by the first scheduled junior races of the season.

Junior Fleet Highlights

It was a fantastic turnout for the juniors, with four Optimists and several Mirrors forming a lively "motley crew." While the adults were sent around the course multiple times, the juniors focused on completing a full lap, navigating the shifting conditions with plenty of chatter. Katie Richardson put in a stellar performance, consistently leading the Optimists and even challenging the adults on handicap.

Laser Fleet Action

After rigging tips from Greg, the fleet navigated a "mill pond" start, waiting for cloud-driven gusts to power three races (two 40-minute and one 20-minute session).

  • Standout Performer: Charles showed impressive consistency across all three races.
  • The "Almost" Victory: Kev Brown dominated the final race with a triumphant lead until a brief distraction near Anchoragecaused by Adam and Sean "parking up" next to Howardallowed the ever-wily Charles to slip through and take the lead.
  • Prize Giving

The day concluded with a celebration in the galley. Prizes were awarded for:

  • Today's Junior Race
  • The previous week's Pursuit Race
  • The conclusion of the Spring Series
  • It was the perfect end to the day, getting everyone fed just as tummies began to rumble!
