RYA Start Windsurfing

This course is for beginners who have done little or no windsurfing before. It is the first part of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) windsurfing scheme and its aim is to provide basic windsurfing techniques and essential background knowledge. By the end of the course you will be able to windsurf safely under loose supervision, be able to turn the board around, sail to where you want to go and get back to shore.

The RYA Start Windsurfing course is run over two days on a weekend, both Saturday and Sunday from 0930 1700. Courses run from May through to October.

This course is the minimum recognised qualification for hiring kit at most windsurfing centres.

Assumed knowledge: None.

Course content: Teaches you the basics of windsurfing using the right equipment.

Ability after course: Able to sail to a chosen point on the water and return to where you started from in light winds.
