Transatlantic boat at Derwent
Published 22:21 on 2 Aug 2020
In 2022 4 rowers will attempt to cross the 3800 miles of the Atlantic from Portugal to French Guiana in a specially designed boat. Derwent had the opportunity to help them in testing the boat for the fist time. Unfortunately the club was closed at the time and only a few hardy buddy sailors were able to view the boat and its progress on the water. Everything went well and we hope to monitor their progress over the next year.
The venture aims to set a new record - completing a route never previously undertaken by a pure class ocean rowing boat, covering about 800 extra miles than most transatlantic rowing crossings. The trip will raise money for Surfers Against Sewage and Our Blue Light. Details of how you can sponsor the project or the charities are on the m2m atlantic four website.
If you'd like to follow their progress you can do so at: m2matlanticfour.com or on Twitter.
