Virtual Regatta - Series
Published 11:38 on 19 Apr 2020
Bored? Desperate to get back on the water? Worried you are forgetting the thrill of the start line?
Well we can't get on the water, but we can keep honing our sailing skills virtually. The RYA has given Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club a VIP pass to participate in VirtualRegatta Inshore. We've had a almost 30 sailors participating in some test racing over the last week or so and we'd be keen to see as many of our old friends back on the 'virtual' water.
With kind support from Ropes4Boats.co.uk we are running a weekly series with 5 races per day on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The winning boat at the end of the week will receive a Ropes4Boats Beanie. (If you have already won a beanie, the next in line to the throne will win instead). Impressed - nip over to their facebook page and give them a like. Times are hard and I'm sure they'd appreciate the publicity.
Races will start at 7pm. A race takes about 10 minutes and we will be using SportsBoats (F70s), Stars and 49ers for the races to give everyone a mix of fun. The best sailor in the month will be nominated to race for the club at the RYA Regional Championship.
We've also been planning some inter-club racing, with up to 10 club sailors competing against 10sailors from another club. A test run of that took place on Thursday night and was very successful against Keilder.
Dave Shilling has been an absolute stalwart in making all this happen. He's continuing to do Online RYA Zone Squad Coaching for the Junior Oppy Zone Squad at the same time!

Its worth spending a few minutes to do their 'Sailing School' to learn the controls.
